About Eastern Plays

Sourcing and shipping from Asia, for the people buying from it. Who we are, what we cover across Sourcing, Shipping, Tariffs & Customs, Quality Control and Offshore Teams, how we report and correct our work, and how to reach the Eastern Plays editorial desk.

Eastern Plays is an independent publication covering Western businesses operating in Asia: supplier sourcing, cross-border shipping, tariffs and customs, quality control, offshore teams. Sourcing and shipping from Asia, for the people buying from it — written for Western SMB owners, importers, sourcing and ops managers, and published on a simple premise: the people who actually do this work deserve the version that survives contact with it.

Why Eastern Plays exists

Coverage of Sourcing, Shipping, Tariffs & Customs, Quality Control and Offshore Teams tends to split into two unhelpful halves: press releases with a byline attached, and commentary from people who have never had to ship, buy, or live with the thing being discussed. Eastern Plays was started to sit in the gap — close enough to the subject to know what actually changed, far enough from it to say so plainly.

Our editorial voice is deliberate: informed, direct and practical. writes like an importer who has been burned once and now checks everything: concrete steps, real numbers, no hype and no hand-wringing. That shows up as how-to guides, explainers, head-to-head comparisons, news briefs and features — whichever format answers the question a reader actually arrived with, rather than whichever one fills the most space.

Who writes here

Every piece on Eastern Plays carries the name of the person who reported and wrote it. 6 writers currently file for us across Sourcing, Shipping, Tariffs & Customs, Quality Control and Offshore Teams, and each of them keeps a profile page listing their background, their beat, and everything they've published on this site.

Where a story has been independently fact-checked, the reviewer is credited separately from the writer, so you can tell who reported a claim and who checked it. Nothing here is published under a house byline or an invented persona.

What we cover

How we work

  1. We report before we opine

Analysis on Eastern Plays starts from something checkable — a filing, a release, a data set, a conversation with someone who was in the room. Where we're inferring rather than reporting, the piece says so in the sentence that does the inferring.

  2. Corrections happen in public

When we get something wrong we fix it in place and note the correction on the article itself, with what changed and when. We don't quietly edit a mistake out of the record.

  3. Commercial relationships never buy coverage

Some links may be sponsored. Our editors choose what we cover, and nothing here is legal or customs advice. Sponsored links are marked where they appear and carry the appropriate link attributes. No sponsor sees a story before publication, and no commercial relationship decides whether a topic gets covered or what we conclude about it.

  4. We write for the person doing the work

This site is written for Western SMB owners, importers, sourcing and ops managers — not for a search engine, and not for an industry insider looking to be flattered. If a piece can't survive being read by someone who does this for a living, it isn't ready to publish.
